The Organization

March On! is a national celebration of storytelling, justice, and culture held annually in Washington, D.C., bringing together filmmakers, activists, artists, students, and community leaders for a week of screenings, panels, and performances. The 2025 Festival ran September 15–21 in Washington, D.C.

The Challenge

This festival website design came with two problems at once. First, an identity that no longer fit: the existing brand was rooted in the legacy “March on Washington Film Festival” name, while the event had grown into a multi-disciplinary platform for contemporary storytelling and activism. Second, a digital presence that hadn’t kept pace, with event schedules, film listings, and sponsor recognition buried in a poorly organized, outdated microsite. On top of both, the 2025 Festival ran on a compressed production schedule with content finalized close to key deadlines, and the introduction of paid sessions added new ticketing and technical requirements.

The Build

The rebrand retired the legacy “March on Washington Film Festival” identity and built a new brand story, visual identity system, and brand promise designed to grow with the Festival. On the digital side, the site was restructured on WordPress and Elementor around the Festival’s three core priorities: events, films, and sponsors. Eventive was integrated directly into the site for native ticketing, a critical piece given the shift to paid sessions, and the final build used a simplified CMS backend with reusable templates so future festival cycles could be updated faster with less production burden.

  • Full rebrand: new theme logo, visual identity, and brand promise
  • Eventive integration for native, in-site ticketing
  • Reusable CMS templates built for faster turnaround on future festival cycles
  • Full 2025 creative suite (program books, sponsorship materials, signage, gala collateral, paid advertising, and social campaigns) built to work off the same brand system as the site
  • BugHerd used throughout development to track feedback and manage revisions

The Result

During the 2025 Festival period, March On!’s social media performance grew significantly compared to the prior quarter: audience grew 21.7% (19,631 to 23,893 followers), net new followers rose 69.2%, impressions increased 74.3% (1.3M to 2.28M), engagement volume grew 94.1%, and video views reached 370,499, up 34.4%. The modernized microsite reduced attendee friction, and the reusable CMS templates cut production burden for future festival years.
